How to Operate a Ball Valve: Opening and Closing Procedures

In-depth analysis: the opening and closing operation process of the ball valve

As a professional in the engineering world, you know the importance of ball valves. Whether in the petrochemical, water treatment or pharmaceutical industries, ball valves play a pivotal role. But for many engineers and operators, the correct opening and closing operation process is still a topic worthy of in-depth discussion.

Basic structure of ball valve

Before we begin discussing operation, it is key to understand the basic structure of a ball valve. Ball valves are mainly composed of valve body, ball, valve stem and sealing ring. Among them, there is a through hole on the ball. When the valve is in the open state, the through hole is aligned with the channel of the valve body, allowing the fluid to pass through ball valve manufacture.

Start the operation process

Make sure the valve is closed: Before starting the opening operation, always confirm that the valve is completely closed. This is to avoid damage to the valve due to a sudden increase in fluid pressure during opening.
Check the sealing ring: The integrity of the sealing ring is directly related to the working efficiency of the valve. If the sealing ring is found to be damaged or aging, it should be replaced immediately.
Rotate the valve stem counterclockwise: Slowly rotate the valve stem counterclockwise to align the through hole in the ball with the channel in the valve body. At this point, you will feel the resistance on the valve stem gradually decrease, globe valve manufacture.
Fully open position confirmation: When the valve reaches the fully open position, there is usually an obvious mark or scale. Make sure the valve is fully in this position.

Close operation process

Begin the closing operation: Contrary to the opening operation, turn the valve stem clockwise to begin closing the valve.
Pay close attention to fluid pressure: Fluid pressure may suddenly increase during the shutdown process. Make sure the system can withstand this change in pressure, check valve manufacture. Fully closed position confirmation: Likewise, when the valve reaches the fully closed position, there will be a mark or scale. Make sure the valve is fully closed and seals tightly.
Check for leaks: After closing the valve, check for fluid leaks. If a leak is discovered, it should be dealt with immediately.
In general, the correct opening and closing operation process can not only ensure the safe operation of the system, but also extend the service life of the valve. It is the responsibility of every engineer and operator to continuously practice and summarize experience and lessons, gate valve manufacture.
